About Us

Steven Alex Wilson, M.Ed., NCC, LPC, LPCS, LCAS

Alex is a Licensed Professional Counselor, National Certified Counselor, Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist, International Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor practicing in Greensboro, NC. Since 2006, he has practiced as a Grief and Pastoral Counselor during his studies as a Masters of Divinity graduate student at Union-PSCE; an independent practitioner for Port Human Services; and as a professional counselor and addiction specialist with Triad Psychiatric & Counseling Center, New Directions Psychiatric Services, and his current practice. 

He started his education at Elon College, double-majoring in the Arts in Psychology and Religion. While there, he worked with the Boys and Girls Club and the Elon Community House, achieving the 100 hours of service in a year award, plus other awards of exceptional service to the community from the Alpha Phi Omega Service Fraternity.

He continued his graduate studies at Clemson University, earning two Masters in Education Counseling with concentrations in Community Counseling and Student Affairs Counseling. He was tapped for both the Counseling Honor Society and Student Affairs Honor Society.  

Alex opened a private practice in Greensboro, North Carolina in November 2011. He has a policy of strict confidentiality and offers unique insight. His welcoming attitude and gentle acceptance creates a sense of calm that benefits his clients. 

He has published two research studies: one in college and one during his graduate studies. 

When he is not working, he likes to go mountain biking, swimming, gardening, water skiing, going to baseball and basketball games, and spending time with his family.

Dr. Venkata R. Challa, MD

Dr. Challa has been with our practice since 2014. He specializes in addiction medicine. His education includes a BA in Medicine and Surgery from SRI Venkateswara University, completion of a Residency and Fellowship Program, and earning his Masters in Neuropathology from the University of Kentucky, along with his Doctorate in Medicine from Osmania University. 

He has practiced with Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center and at the University of Kentucky Albert B. Chandler Hospital. 

Dr. Challa is married, and his wife is a psychiatrist with her own practice in Winston-Salem. He also has a daughter and a son.

In his spare time, he enjoys riding his scooter, working out, traveling, and spending time with his family.

Dr. David Kaplan, MD

He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania and then went on to Medical School at MCV in Virginia. He finished 3 years of residency at York Pennsylvania focusing on Family Medicine. He continued his work with the Air Force as a General Medical Officer. He has been in the medical Field since he graduated in 1971. He moved to Greensboro and started his own practice with three fellow providers on July 1976. He has worked with a nursing facility for 40 years and is the Medical Director there. He is also a Supervisor for Nurses that focus on home visits. He is also the Director of a program focused on Autism for Adults since 1977. He has 2 daughters and 3 sons.

In his free time, he rides his motorcycle, is in his garden, spends time reading or walking his dog. 
Scott Kixmiller, LCSW, LCAS, CCS
As a life-long resident of North Carolina, Scott comes to us with over 18 years of addiction recovery experience and has been formally practicing in the field of addiction and mental health since 2010. He received his undergraduate degree at Appalachian State University in Boone, NC and received a Master of Social Work from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Scott is passionate about helping people with chemical and process addictions as well as those who are diagnosed with mental health disorders. He is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in NC and VA and a NC Licensed Clinical Addictions Specialist (LCAS). He recently achieved his Certified Clinical Supervisor (CCS) status with the NC Substance Abuse Professional Practice Board.

When Scott is not helping clients, he enjoys watching sports, being a handyman, remodeling projects, working in the yard, hiking, running and going to the gym.

Sara has been with our practice since 2015. She graduated from Ledford High School and then continued on with her education at Davidson Community College. She has worked with Forsyth Hospital. At our practice, she provides a welcoming attitude, a calm demeanor, and a fair knowledge of addiction dependency. She is in charge of the drug screens for our practice.  

She has a daughter. In her spare time, she enjoys swimming, walking, and spending time with her daughter.

Holly Atkins, Receptionist
She attended Northwest High School and graduated from Home Schooling. She continued her education at GTCC for a CNA and later transferred to Davison Community College. She furthered her education there with a continued focus on Nursing. 

She worked at High Point Regional Hospital specializing in Neurovascular Stroke Trauma for 3 years.

She has worked in the area of customer service stating at age of 15. She has worked around people most of her life. 

She has 2 terrific kids: a son and daughter. In her free time, she can be found with her family. She is an outdoors type of person, is involved with yoga, and enjoys reading novels. 

She presents a warm non-judgmental smile, is very personable, and offers kinds words of support to our clients.
